New Beginnings (College Graduates)

College is supposed to be the best 4 years of your life.

The struggles and the tears only bring to light,

Those days where laughter made your face grow sore,

Or the memories made that you’ll retell until you can’t anymore.

Like a hiker, up mountains in these years you did climb,

Stretching the bounds of who you were, some-things you left behind.

But don’t let your hard work and exhaustion make you weak.

Don’t let this huge accomplishment be your highest peak.

You’ll face some unique challenges as your destiny approaches nearer.

Know that in time, your purpose will continue to grow clearer.

So Abandon your anxiety! You can do all things.

You can exude a love like a Coretta Scott King.

Posses courage of a Ruby Bridges.

Or tenacity of a Beyoncé who was determined to live her dream.

The peace of a Nelson Mandela.

The fight of a Malcom X.

The devotion of a Barack Obama—a man who paved the way, so you could be next.

I’m not saying it will be easy.

Your terrain may seldom get flat.

But your future is far too bright to invest valuable time in looking back.

Inhale the joy and lock in the drive that one day you will need.

And I promise you with faith and persistence, you will succeed.
