Aside

I am announcing a 3 month pause from my weekly Poetic Prose posts! This pause has the purpose of providing me with the additional time I need to fully embrace the upcoming events I have within my community.

Throughout the months of February (Black history month), I have been asked to feature at 4 very diverse events: an Open Mic Night, a Block Party, an African American College Day for high school aged scholars and a Hidden Figures themed Womens empowerment luncheon for middle school aged scholars. March and April will likely be just as busy as I will be traveling for the National Society of Black Engineers Convention, apartment hunting and I will be preparing for graduation. I wanted to devote this transitional period to my future without neglecting my art. Ergo, I will continue to write and continue to share more weekly poems by May!

I am very excited to keep you all posted and continue to upload new videos highlighting my community involvement. So much is to come on 2017! I can already feel the difference. Stay tuned and be sure to follow my YouTube channel @kendallcarrin for updates.

Thank you for your support. See you after May!

Me

Scratched by disloyal friends. Scarred by heart wrenching disappointments. Surrounded by numerous skeptics. Kissed by difficult trials. Crafted by the hand of God. Committed to enjoying life. Exuding love, joy, and peace. That is the person I see. That person is me. Read more →

Letting Go

4x3x2, seems like a box you were trying to fit into. Mere clay, pressing yourself into this mold silently praying that it wouldn’t just all explode. A novel you could write. About the love that he showed you when the sun wasn’t so bright. Far beyond the 4 letter word. To let him go just seems so absurd. Yet even… Read more →

Mistakes

Have you ever made a mistake? I hope so. I didn’t, But I pray you know. That perfections demonic grip will suffocate you. 12-31-15, Reminiscing

December 31st, 2015; My only new years resolution was to be the person of my dreams Funniest part is, at the time, I really had no clue, All that the simple resolution was going to put me through. The woman I saw myself being was not the woman I was. Like déjà vu was my name, the same mistakes I’d… Read more →

Blessed

Tranquil light zig-zagged it’s way through my partially open shutters softly warming my skin. My eyes opened slowly. The sun began to illuminate everything surrounding me. My thoughts skipped away to those on the streets, hot and hungry, wanting something to eat, some place to sleep. And I clenched my favorite fuzzy blanket tighter– Privilege. Peace. Disbelief. God chose this… Read more →

Stretching Bounds

Making the world a better place is something I earnestly seek to do. That means not biting my tongue when the time does come to share my opinion on an issue. Confidence it takes to do that, to step outside the bounds. Catapulting us into an area where we are vulnerable to what we are around. But what’s a life… Read more →

Adulting Fees

They told me the present was a gift, but I didn’t believe them. So different my life now compared to how it was then. Always food in my stomach, a nice roof over my head*. A gentle voice to remind me when it was time to go to bed. The change that came, Showed me what I didn’t know. The… Read more →
